8static is well known for its open mics and this month’s was no exception. A diverse range of musical performances entertained the audience as anticipation of the night’s amazing line up filled the venue. First up was Bart de Jong of Men of Mega from the Netherlands. Although this artist usually performs as a duo, he delivered an intense performance drawing the crowd in and heating things up. During the middle of his set Emily Feder handed him her an iPhone so that fellow chip musician An0va (who couldn’t attend) was able to facetime him playing live.
Next up, Saint took the stage and stood in front of the table as he belted out covers such as Up All Night and My Radioactive Love. Visuals by Pixelseed added to the mood as intense colors bathed the stage from the two-projector set up. The highlight of the night was when the crowd went from a mosh pit to a full blown Soul Train. Saint has been attending 8static for over 4 years and the Philadelphia chip tune crowd has seen his talent blossom from open mics to taking the stage for full sets.
Trey Frey headlined the night and the crowd just went wild. His tunes are widely known to get bodies moving and it wasn’t long before people were jumping on stage for an epic grand finale.
